Wild Yonder is a roving summer camp offering inspired retreats fueled by fresh air. Part vacation, part symposium, WY builds events and cultivates opportunities for campers to relax, discover and share—all while sitting around a campfire with a flask of bourbon.

For our premier program, Wild Yonder is proud to bring you the “Forage, Feast & Fire” Day Camp. This event, held at thecommunity farm of Michelle Rider and Chris Heavener, will allow campers to explore the curiosities of cooking by fire, printing by sunlight and foraging for just the right native plant to mix into your lotion and/or cocktail.

These activities and more will be led by an incredible team of Wild Yonder counselors:

Sarah Vroom of Bountiful Backyards will guide campers on a hike, identifying medicinal and edible plants.

Margaret Porter-Daniel, a regional herbalist, will lead a workshop on making healing lotions & salves from forage-able plants.

Scott Richie, bartender extraordinaire, will be on-site educating us on herbal-infused libations (which he will then promptly pour into our mugs).

Django Haskins of The Old Ceremony will lead us in campfire songs while we wait for our dinner to cook.

Dinner will consist of fire-pit baked “hobo-packs” constructed with fresh, local ingredients and topped with sauces created by Matt Kelly of Mateo Tapasand Mike Hacker of Pie Pushers.

In addition to the above listed activities, campers will be provided with transportation aboard the Bridge Bus to and from Beausol Gardens (with meeting spots in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill) as well as being outfitted with a standard issue of provisions for surviving the day. This includes, but is not limited to: snacks, drinks, a Wild Yonder Day Camp survival kit, dinner, s'mores and maybe some more drinks.
